The Revolution Door
Inhabitat recently blogged about a brilliant energy harvesting concept that could make its way into our buildings of the future. It’s called the Revolution Door and it’s brought to you by the folks at Fluxxlab, a New York-based design firm that specializes in finding ways to harvest sustainable energy. At first glance, the Revolution Door looks like the kind of typical revolving door you’d expect to see in banks and office buildings across the globe. It is what happens when the door is used that makes it unique. As you push the door and walk through it, your energy is used to turn a series of gears that power a generator and could potentially distribute free electricity throughout the installation site.
Treehugger puts forward a few possible challenges to the design, namely that revolving doors are already hard for some people to move, and adding a generator will only make that more difficult. They admit that the idea is “lovely” though, and we agree wholeheartedly. It’s inspiring to see what the human mind is capable of conceiving when faced with a challenge like developing sustainable energy. Clearly, when ideas like this are allowed to grow and improve, our planet stands to benefit.
