UNEP: Green ‘Gold Rush’ in Full Swing

According to a new report released today by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), investment in the sustainable energy sector was up $148 billion  (93 billion euros) in 2007, another sign that public and private organizations are getting serious about green. Wind energy drew $50 billion in new investments, up 40 percent over 2006. China, India and Brazil accounted for nearly a quarter of new investments overall.

The report concluded that clean-energy purchasing is expected to reach $450 billion a year by 2012 and $600 billion a year by 2020.

AP, Reuters and BBC News were in Nairobi for the UNEP press conference and covered the key points in depth.

Does this report indicate a clean energy future in the making? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
