A Conversation with TXU’s David Hennekes
What type of green energy do you offer your customers?
TXU Energy provides a variety of environmentally friendly energy options to customers. Customers can choose from renewable energy plans that meet their unique needs, as exemplified by our recent deal to provide 100% green energy to Dell’s Round Rock headquarters. We also offer innovative products and services to all of our customers, including residential, such as the TXU Energy Power Monitor™ and TXU Energy iThermostat™, which help customers reduce their energy demand, and also benefit the environment. TXU Energy is investing $100 million over the next five years to develop even more advanced energy efficiency and demand reduction tools and services for our customers.
What are some potential drawbacks to green energy and how do you go about alleviating those concerns?
Some customers do not know enough about green energy to make an informed decision in the marketplace. TXU Energy works to continuously educate all of our customers about the importance of conservation and engage our customers in environmentally beneficial activities that work for them. In addition to the innovative residential products mentioned above, we offer several similar solutions for business customers and distribute thousands of compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) and LED night lights to customers at community events. TXU Energy also has several recurring customer energy efficiency education campaigns, such as the Home Energy Makeover™ tours, Beat the Heat, and Holiday Cents, which stress simple, cost-effective ways for customers to conserve energy and save on their bills.
Businesses and governments are increasingly relying on harvesting wind energy to meet their energy needs. What is your industry doing to meet this growing demand?
TXU Energy works with our business customers to provide customized renewable energy solutions that meet each business’ unique needs. One recent high-profile example is our deal to provide 100% green energy to Dell’s Round Rock headquarters. TXU Energy also provides business customers with a variety of tools and services that help them meet growing demand with efficiency gains, such as the TXU Energy Load Analyzer™, TXU Energy Power Factor Solutions™, and TXU Energy Audits™.
How much has wind energy advanced in the past decade? What new technologies do you foresee that will make it even more affordable and efficient?
Wind-powered electric generation has grown rapidly over the last decade. Texas is now the national leader in wind energy generation, and TXU Energy is proud to offer renewable energy from Texas resources to our customers across the Lone Star State. Significant investment in wind energy over recent years will translate into wider deployment of wind energy in Texas, making green energy more readily available to customers. TXU Energy will continue to innovate and provide products and services that meet this growing customer demand.
What can customers do to support wind energy?
In Texas’ competitive retail electricity market, customers have the power to choose electric plans that meet their unique needs – including green energy needs. All customers need to do to support wind energy is choose a plan that has the right amount of green energy for them – such as TXU Energy’s TexasChoiceSM and EarthWiseSM plans.
