Voices of the ReGeneration: China’s Green Beat
With all of the green news out of China over the past few weeks, my favorite coverage has been from China’s Green Beat. Founded in September of 2007 by two young entrepreneurs calling themselves the Green Brothers, China Green Beat presents consistently good environmental news with a healthy mix of information and humor. The site’s video reports, in Chinese with English subtitles, cover a wide range of environmental news and developments, from new wind farms to “no car” days in the city of Kunming, and are presented from the perspective of the people living there. In light of the barrage of information out of China from the major news outlets, China Green Beat’s personal approach can be very refreshing and puts a real face on China’s efforts to green its incredible growth.
Here’s one of their earlier pieces - a report on the three-wheeled bicycles throughout Beijing that move the city’s trash for resale or recycling.
Here’s a funny bit they did on green dating. It’s told as a narrative, but is chock full of good green tips and information.
China’s Green Beat has definitely been honing its craft and improving, as evidenced by recent podcasts. There’s also a CGB YouTube channel too, so be sure to check it out when you get a chance. Another great example of how going green has gone truly global.
